Budget & Advocacy Training March 31, 2016: Making Our Voices Heard
The DC Senior Advisory Coalition (S.A.C.) will hold its annual Budget & Advocacy Training for community members on March 31, 2016 at 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Samuel J. Simmons NCBA Estates, 2801 14th St. NW, Washington, DC 20009.
The S.A.C. tracks and advocates on issues impacting the District’s senior population including affordable and accessible housing, nutrition, transportation, wellness, and other supportive services necessary to aging safely in the community.
Mayor Bowser’s FY17 budget release date is March 24, 2016. Throughout April the DC City Council will hold hearings on the budget proposals, take input from the community, and debate the City’s funding priorities. Multiple agencies serve seniors through a variety of programs. The S.A.C. will analyze the mayor’s budget proposal and provide an assessment to members at the March 31st event.
The training will bring together S.A.C. partners AARP District of Columbia, Fair Budget Coalition, and So Others Might Eat (SOME). This is a great opportunity for members of the community – seniors, caregivers, service providers – to come together and learn about the budget process, testifying before the City Council, and how to tell your story about aging in DC. We need you to speak up and tell our elected officials what you want and need to age safely in your communities.
We hope you can join us! Please RSVP to saccoordinator@yahoo.com. You can download a flyer here. Citizen Advocacy Training Flyer
